EEPROM Cross Reference

Parts used for PC BIOS applications can often be exchanged for alternative or equivalent parts made by a different manufacturer. Most EEPROM makers develop and compete for the same markets and have to comply with the same standards

In most cases parts with the same or similar numbers can usually be interchanged. Providing of course they have the same pin outs and are the same kind of device. i.e. FWH (firm ware hub) LPC (low pin count) you would need to replace a firmware hub with a firmware hub, and not an LPC device.

Some chips nowadays will function in both modes the PM49FL004T for instance will function as both an LPC or FWH device.
I would recommend that you check the data sheets for both parts before deciding on a replacement part.
Fitting an incorrect device type can sometimes damage your board and is not recommended, so special care should be taken when choosing a replacement EEPROM.

SPI Serial Flash parts are usually interchangeable. If the EEPROM you intend to use as a replacement is the same size and package type as the old part then normally any makers part will do the job. i.e. an 8 Mb SOIC/SOP part from ST or winbond will replace an SST SOIC/SOP part.

And the same is true of PDIP parts. The only major difference between these type of parts is the access times. It is always recommended that you do your own appraisal by viewing the data sheets of both components. In some instances not all makers spi parts will work as a replacement.
