HP Compaq Mini 331C-1101AS Repair Notes

This information is only relevant if you are using a programmer to restore the BIOS.

Our first example of the Mini 331C-1101AS came in for a bios repair recently. The machine ID is not present in the new downloaded BIOS and needs to be patched in to the new file.

A text search for the Serial Number within the bios revealed its location at Address x01000h to x0100ffh.

The old file is needed to obtain this machine specific information. The file resides at the same address on the old removed part.

Care should be taken whilst removing the old part and idealy it should be removed undamaged as you may need to send it to us if ordering an eeprom for this machine.

Once the small section of code is pasted to the correct location within the new bios the Laptop then has no ID issues after BIOS recovery.

BIOS Location

The BIOS part itself on this example was W25X16AVSIG a SOIC 5mm Square without the pins Body. Its located right close to the keyboard lead socket on the mainboard under some black plastic shielding.

We can supply parts for this machine, however unless you send in the old part we will not be able to restore your dmi information. i. e. serial number, model etc. The laptop develops amnesia without the BIOS being edited before programming.
