Acer BIOS Update Problems
I have noticed an issue here with some Acer Laptops coming in for the Soldered Laptop BIOS Chip Repair Service. It would seem that there is an easy fix in some cases. Besides the normal failed updates, I have noticed a common issue with a few Acer machines after updating to the latest available BIOS.
Some of these issues can be avoided if you read the documentation that comes with your Laptop or PC before you update the BIOS.
Acer Laptop BIOS update Problem-4GB of Memory
4GB of Memory is not supported within some new Acer Laptop BIOS Updates. It would seem that new BIOS updates for some Acer Laptops only support 2GB of RAM, and NOT 4GB as previous updates did. If you update to the latest BIOS version, and have 4GB of Ram fitted it could leave you with no display after rebooting.
If you have 4GB of Ram fitted to your Acer Laptop and have what appears to be a failed BIOS Flash Update, try removing one Stick of ram you may find it resolves your Screen Problem.
I have noticed this issue with the Aspire 6530G a few times now and the issue may well affect other Acer Laptops too. luckily the resolution is very simple, just remove the extra stick of memory.
Before Updating the BIOS on Any makers Laptop, it is good policy to leave just 1 x memory stick in the first slot. Remove any second memory stick fitted to the machine, as it may result in no screen and administrator Panic.
If you have flashed with 4MB of Memory fitted, removing 1 x 2GB of Ram will sometimes restore normal operation. The machine can then be re flashed back to its previous BIOS if you need the 4GB of Memory support.
Acer Desktop BIOS Update Problem-BIOS Write Protect in CMOS Setup
Some Acer Desktops have a BIOS Write protect setting in advanced settings in CMOS Setup. Before Updating the bios on these machines Disable the BIOS Write Protect feature if you have it, or you may have issues with your machine after the update attempt completes.
